It’s race week!
I’m scared, nervous, anxious but excited all at the same time.
This will be the biggest event I have ever done.
A Goal is to finish
B Goal is to finish under 6h30m.
One thing I have learned from all the events that I have done is preparation is key.
Here are my top 6 tips leading into race day.
Race Week Checklist
√ 1. Sleep
This means going to bed early.
Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/YouTube/Netflix will be there tomorrow.
So turn off the device, and head to bed earlier. Your body and mind will thank you.
If you do struggle with winding down, turn on a relaxing playlist like Sleep Sounds or read a book.
√ 2. Toenails
This may seem really random, but trust me, cut your toenails a few days prior to your race.
√ 3. Hydration
Start and end your day with a big glass of water. Drink to thirst.
If you aren’t a huge fan of water, try green tea’s, or a few slices of lemon or mint leaves in your water bottle.
Limit the caffeine, save it for race day for when you will really need it.
√ 4. Race Kit
Your race kit isn’t just the clothes you are going to be wearing. It will be everything you will need for your event.
My Ultra Race Kit
- Race Day Outfit
- Hydration pack with water in the bladder
- 500ml bottle of trailbrew
- Fuel (Huck nutrition, fruit pouches, trail mix etc)
- Rain jacket
- Space Blanket
- Medical kit
- Race belt
- Drop bag with a change of clothes, shoes, and extra food
√ 5. Recovery Bag
This bag will have all the things that I might need or want for after the race.
I won’t have the luxury of going back immediately to my accommodation for a shower.
My bag will include:
- Change of clothes
- Change of shoes (slip-on)
- Mineral/soda water (I like the fizz)
√ 6. Visualisation
Take the time to visualise exactly how you want your race to go, from beginning to end.
Let your mind process all the feelings.
Just breathe, take it all in and embrace all the emotions.
How do you prep for your event?
