Welcome to part 2 of our Apollo Bay and Great Ocean Road adventure.
Today would be the day that we would explore Apollo Bay and the surrounding area’s.
First up was Marengo Beach.
Now if you read my Run Forrest race recap you would be aware what happened on the beach. But for those that don’t, please read on.
With the camera in my hand I tired to save it from damage. It felt like it was happening it hyper speed and slow mo all at the same time.
I landed hard. My elbow smacking into the rocks, but I smashed the camera.
Thank goodness the camera and lens were ok. The filter not so much, it was smashed.
My elbow however was bleeding and very sore.
We only there for 5 minutes, when we had to pack up and go back to the apartment so I could get cleaned up and attend to my elbow.
Once my nerves were settled we decided on a change of tactics and would instead do a few caches and take the rest of the day at a pretty crusiey pace. Our first geocache find happened to be in front of the apartment where we were staying.
With other tourists around we had to be sneaky.
We did discover our first trackable, which we traded for one of our Geocoins. If you have no idea what I’m talking about then get yourself over to Geocaching.com and get involved in the gps treasure hunt.
After lunch we headed over to Blanket Bay to explore the beach. I took extra care on the rocks. I didn’t need another fall or another injury.
We also headed out to Cape Otway. We didn’t pay the entry fee to go visit the lighthouse. Yes I understand it’s significance, but the entry price was in my opinion outrageous.
Instead we explored the tracks around the area, and just enjoyed the setting sun.
On the way home we stopped in at Crayfish bay. We had the little beach cove all to ourselves.
It was cold, but the kids had a ball chasing the waves. Or more so the waves chasing them.
With the sun setting, we trudged back to the car to make our way back to the apartment for carb loaded dinner and a well earned rest.
Stay tuned for part 3 of our Apollo Bay adventure holiday.
