We are officially in the 2nd half of the year!

While we don’t celebrate the 4th of July, we did have our version of it in June “The Queen’s Brithday”. I’ll take the public holiday although I don’t really care about the monarchy.
I bet some of you are soaking up the sun and are wearing shorts & singlets, running in sunlight or even sweating a bucket. Me however I’ve had to don the long pants, long sleeve tops, headbands, and sometimes even the headlamp.
I’m not going to complain, we don’t get snow (unless you live in the mountains, which I do not). I’ve also been lucky not to have been caught out in heavy rain. Light misty rain I can handle, as that is quite refreshing
This one is a long one, so go grab a drink and a chair and let’s catch up.
I’m having a Total-i tea by tbar. It’s a herbal tea that’s chai flavour and totally scrummy, makes me all warm inside, which for winter I want.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that I clocked over 200km for RunJune.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you 27km out of those 200km were hikes, but they were hard, long and I’m counting them.
Yet that’s what you get with hiking, sometimes it can be quite unpredictable.
Let me tell you those 12km we walked on that day were a hard slog, especially in the conditions we were in.
Not a human soul to be found. With the sun out we saw more wildlife, from emu’s to wallabies, but the highlight had to be the four eagles we witnessed flying the thermal planes above us.
One thing is for sure once the Grampians Peak Trail is completed it’s going to be a sure hit. Stage 1 is already open, and while it wont be and PCT (Pacific Crest Trail, for distance), it will be a trail that you will have to put on your wish list.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that my best running week was week 4 of June, covering over 52.3km of pure running. I’m a machine (yes I’m a little proud)!
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you my totally running distance for the year comes in at 786km (834km if you include all the bush walks). If you are into stats that means the following:
- 131km average per month
- 1572km average for the year
That means I’m well on my way to reach my 1500km goal.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you the reference to the Pacific Crest Trail is because I’m reading Wild. And while it is not a running book, I’m totally loving it. I look forward to seeing the movie adaptation.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you I ran on my birthday. Well of course I was going to run, hello run June and all. I did have a goal of running 13km. I ran the 5km at parkrun, and then ran back home (approx 7km), so not quite 13km, but I still ran.
Speaking of parkrun, I came first for the females.
The highlight of my birthday was going to see The Lion King. Oh wow, what a sensory spectacular! If you are going to see a musical, then it should be The Lion King, you will not be disappointed.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that Miles won another trophy!
I found out later he said “Mummy said go slow at the start, and then at the turn around point go super fast”.
All that tortoise and hare has finally rubbed off.
I was also informed it was a cat a mouse race with everyone getting overtaken at one stage. It’s a shame I had to miss it, but he had a good time that’s for sure.
If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you last weekend (27th June) it was a trifecta for this household at run club.
I came first in the senior club handicap, Kayla came 2nd, and Miles 3rd in the sub junior handicap.
