4 tips to rocking your 21 Day Sugar Detox

21dsdjan15Today I kick my sugar habit to the kerb and start my 21 day sugar detox (aka 21dsd).

I had initially planned to start this on the 4th.  But when Diane announced that her online group would be starting on the 5th I thought it would be a good idea to join up for the community support.

Under normal circumstances you would not be starting a detox when you are away from home.  It’s a lot easier to control your environment when that environment is your own place.

Alas I like to make this a bit more interesting.  I’m starting this detox while at my parents house for a few days.

At the end of the day it all comes down to preparation.  Having done some whole30’s I’m already family with how programs like this work.

As a birthday present to myself (back in June) I purchase the 21 day sugar detox cookbook.  I have made a lot of recipes from it (not all of them, as I don’t do fish)

And I look forward to discovering more recipes from the cookbook but also from the new cookbook I was gifted from family.

I know that the key to having a successful 21dsd is my meal preparation.  Here are some tips to totally rock your 21 day sugar detox.

4 tips to rocking your 21dsd

.1. Read through you cookbook in advance  

When I look through recipes I look for recipes I know I will like based on ingredients.

Ingredients are also another major factor.  Cook what’s in season.  If you can’t get the ingredient, then you might want to hold off on that recipe.

You may also need to convert from metric to imperial or vice versa.

Or you may not know what a courgette is (zucchini) or an aubergine (eggplant) is.   Knowing your ingredients is important to having a recipe success.

.2. Stock your pantry 

Herbs & Spices

These will be vital to adding flavour, and giving you the taste sensation you will need and want to replace those sugar craving.

Don’t be afraid to try herbs you thought you might not like.

I’m not a fan of fennel, however as a spice in certain food it totally rocks my socks.

Sauces & Oils / Fats

Coconut Amino’s, fish sauce, Olive oil, Duck Fat and so forth.

Will and are stables to a program like this.

You may find that you have to buy these online as they aren’t available at your supermarket.

.3. Test recipes before you start your program

There is nothing worst than cooking a recipe and discovering you need to modify it or it took way longer than you thought it was going to take.

Only you know your oven and stove and you know it’s little quirks (believe me they all have quirks).

When you are already familiar with a recipe you can fit it into your schedule.

.4. Have fun

You may feel really overwhelmed at the start because of all the things you can’t eat.  But instead of on focus on the negatives, focus on the positives.

Just remember to take each day as it comes, and have fun in the kitchen.
