It’s no secret that I love to run.
Back in March I came back from a trail run, and noticed my shoe was slightly damaged.

Yes it’s only minor, but these are my fave running shoes.
Thanks to this little thing called the internet I could do all my research at home. The only problem with that is you can do all the research in the world, but if you can test it out it might not be for you.
So while I was in Melbourne for Tough Mudder I popped into various camping shops and shoe shops. I had my list of trail running shoes that I wanted to try. And try I did.
Out of all of them, I was most impressed with the Salomon Speedcross 3.
- Lightweight breathable fabric, that come in fun colours
- Anti-debris meshing.
- A quick-lace system
- A cool lace pocket
- Water Resistant Textile
- Mud Guard
- Moulded EVA (basically a very grippy sole)

So these were the shoes that I ended up getting. I chose to buy them online from Wiggle as I could get them dramatically cheaper than in store. When I intitally ordered them I chose the red ones. When they arrived I discovered that I got my sizing wrong (their chart was wrong, which they have now fixed). So I had to return them. Ordered the orange ones instead, and I must say I do prefer the colour.
These shoes are super comfy and offer great support for a trail shoe. The heal to toe drop is higher than my brooks. My brooks are at a 4mm drop these Salomon are at approx 10mm, so yes a difference.
I will be honest and have not clocked up more than 15km in these shoes. My longest run in them have been a 10km / 70min trail run.
That being said, they gave me the grip I needed and wanted. I didn’t have to worry about slipping and sliding which is a huge plus.
If you are looking for a trail running shoe, definitely test out the Salomon, you wont be disappointed.
Do you do trail running?
Do you own a pair of trail shoes, if so what brand do you run in?
