2013 has ended.
The year has brought me many running achievements, but I’ve already done a post about my running year in review, if you haven’t already read it you can do so here here.
Back in 2012 when I was setting running goals for 2013, I decided to set myself an accumulative distance running goal. I initially set my distance goal at 900km. I chose that number based on my running distance monthly averages of 2012. 1000km however is a round number, and it looks more impressive. Yes I will admit that 1000km seemed at the time a bit far fetched. Yet I know that there are people out there that run distance goals based on the current year (2013 km/mi in 2013), which to me is a lot of km, and if you run in miles, so much more.
December brought on the start of summer. It also brought events that would eat into my normal running schedule, parties, dinners and meetings, but that’s life and you have to deal with it.
My highlights for the month would have to be, getting 2.5 long runs in. You have no idea how happy that made me. I will admit that I didn’t realise how much I missed doing those long runs. The other thing I have discovered is my endurance. It’s there, even when I don’t get the distance in, when I run for time, I still make it.
Other highlights of the month would have to be running on Christmas day, and running on the last day of the year (aka News Years Eve).
By the end of the month though, I out ran my 1000km goal. I ended up running over 1100km in 2013. 100km more than what I initially set out to achieve.
So looking back my mileage throughout the months was as follows:
January – 83.7km
February – 89.3km
March – 110.14km
April – 113.41km
May – 79.93km
June – 106.40km
July – 93.64km
August – 87.13km
September – 100.34km
October – 72.30km
November – 92.18km
December – 76.93km
Total – 1105.40.km
2014 will bring lots more running lots more achievements big and small, and of course I’ll be smashing out another 1000km of running for sure.

1 – .5 (point 5) because I don’t consider 9km a longish wrong. A long run to me is 10km, or anything over an hour.
